Here at Mr Pickles’ we were pretty excited to learn that our neighbouring brewery, Abbeydale Brewery, had started canning their beer and we quickly stocked up on lots of their lovely cans of Heathen. Super refreshing with lots of tropical fruit flavours and a pleasant citrus bitterness, this American pale ale is the brewery’s first core keg beer and some of you may recognise it under its old name of Mosaic (so called after the hops used in the beer).
It seems that Abbeydale Brewery is on a bit of a canning roll as they’ve since released another – this time in collaboration with three other British breweries. Joining Jamie at Abbeydale to create this special brew was Dave from Northern Monk Brewing Co, Richard from Magic Rock Brewing and Sam from Siren Craft Brew. And this collaboration is about much more than a shared passion for beer as Dave, Richard and Sam have all previously worked at Abbeydale so it was a good old reunion too!
And the aptly named 4 Degrees of Separation has been getting the thumbs up from the Mr Pickles’ team – especially from our beer expert Elli. She loves a collaboration brew as it always results in something interesting, and on tasting 4 Degrees for the first time, she certainly wasn’t disappointed.
With Nelson Sauvin, Amarillo, Cascade and Galaxy hops, 4 Degrees of Separation is a hop forward, juicy IPA. It’s packed with powerful gooseberry, grapefruit, passion fruit and orange flavours making it the spring time drink of choice. Elli’s been enjoying 4 Degrees with light chicken dishes and salads but she can’t wait for the barbecue season to finally arrive so that she can sit outside and sip this juicy beer in the sun.
4 Degrees was released as a limited edition, so if you want to try some, you’re going to have to be quick. But, don’t worry if you miss out as Abbeydale will continue to can Heathen and they are hoping to start canning their Brewers Emporium range by autumn this year.
